  • Thyme
  • Thyme is a perennial herb with very small leaves and tiny fragrant flowers.  They are versatile and beautiful and should have a place in every herb garden.
  • Thyme needs full Sun and dry, gritty soil.  Avoid heavy and wet soils.  They are comparatively very easy to grow.
  • Pot Culture : In a 10 to 12” pot one can grow thyme easily .  Sow the seeds 2-4 mm deep and keep in shade till germination and gradually expose to Sunlight.
  • In Ground : As thyme is a shrub one can easily grow in ground too.  Transplant the seedlings once they reach a height of 2-3 inches at a distance of 40 cm between plants and 60 cm between rows.
  • Harvesting should be done just before the flowers begin to open.  You can either pinch the leaves or cut the stems 2 inches from the ground.  After harvesting, allow them to dry as once dry the leaves will separate easily from the woody stems.  If rubbed lightly.
  • After 3-4 years plants will become woody and it’s advisable to start over again from seed.
