  • Methi (Fenugreek)
  • Methi is a cool season crop. Due to wide adaptability it grows successfully even under hot climatic conditions. Areas with continuous and heavy rains are not recommended for growing methi.
  • Methi can be grown on a wide range of soils provided it is well drained & manured. The seeds can be sown directly, no need to transplant. The seeds are generally broadcasted, sowing in lines is much better. Sow the seeds at a distance of 20 cm between rows and 10-20 cm between plants.
  • Methi requires adequate moisture throughout its growing period. Methi can be grown in shallow pots. Scatter the seeds lightly in the pot and water. Keep in semi shade till germination and gradually expose to sunlight over a period of one week.
  • Harvesting is done in about 30-35 days of sowing. The top of the plants are cut 2 cm above the soil. After cutting the leaves, they should be stored in cool conditions.

Step by Step Growth Guide

1. Sowing

Methi can be sown by direct method.

You can grow in shallow round or rectangular container with minimum depth of 6 - 8" and fill it with POT-O-MIX (Growing Medium)

You can even grow on raised / seed beds. Prepare the seedbed (Refer to growing through seeds guidelines)

Sow the seeds at a depth of 0.3 cms. Cover lightly.

The spacing in containers should be 15 - 20 cms apart. Or raised / seed bed the spacing should be 20 cms between plants as well as rows.

Water gently and provide shade till they germinate.

2. Nurturing

The seeds will germinate in 4 - 6 days and gradually expose to full sunlight in next 7 - 8 days.

Watering should be done lightly and at the base of the plants.

Fertilisation can begin after 20 days. One application is enough. Choose from ORGANIC or INORGANIC options.

Harvesting can be done in 30 - 35 days from sowing. Just simply pull out the bundh by the roots.
