  • It is an excellent cool season vegetable. A close relative of cauliflower but the heads are green.
  • Broccoli requires well drained soil with adequate organic manure. The seeds can be sown directly into the ground at a distance of 60 cm between plants as well as rows. One can transplant too once the plants are 7-8 cm tall. Broccoli requires regular watering.
  • It is not advisable to grow Broccoli in pots. Growing in the ground is easier and better.
  • The large centre head reaches the biggest in diameter. When this is cut, new shoots with smaller heads form in the leaf axils, so a single plant will bear for many weeks..
  • For harvest, cut the head when tightly packed and before the individual flower buds open. Take about 10 cm of main stem with a slanting cut. This prevents water logging in the stem as well as rotting. Cut side shoots as they develop. Generally the heads are ready for harvest within 85-90 days of sowing.
  • To obtain more & better quality of fruit use Super Vegetable fertilizer once every 15 days and once every 7 days when the buds appear (Instruction on the product pack.)
